Old City Jail

The mysterious Old City Jail is located on the grounds of the Rosenberg Railroad Museum. Few seem to know exactly when it was built, or how many lawbreakers, scofflaws and outlaws may have been confined within its walls. If you have information on the history of Rosenberg's Old City Jail, please email Jerry at the Museum and set up an appointment to discuss. We are in the earliest stages of gathering a detailed history of this landmark in Rosenberg, and we need your help!

Old City Jail was built on city property at the edge of town sometime between 1880 and 1930. It consists of a small brick structure with four one bed bunks, along with four barred windows, to allow for ventilation in the days before air conditioning. The building had, at one time, running water and natural gas lines. In the 1930s the jail facilities were transferred to Old City Hall, and the Old City Jail became a storehouse for the city water department.
