"The car is Canadian National
#79, ex GTR 2900. The car was built in 1879 by the Northern
Railway of Canada (GTR) 51'3/58'7. renumbered GT 1148 First
Class Car, Northern & North Western series in 1888, renumbered
GTR 20 also in 1888. Rebuilt by GTR (63'10/71'1) between
1912 and 1920, got a steel under frame in 1920, renamed GTR
Quebec in 1922, CN 91(i) in 8/1923, CN 82(ii) in 1/1925, CN
92(ii) in 6/1925, CN 80(iii) in 10/28 CN 79(ii) in 4/29, steel
plated (62'10/72'5, truck centres 47'9) open platform or
vestibule, 6 wheel trucks, square windows, comp trucks 10/1929.
retired Transcona Manitoba 6/1962, sold to Trains of Yesterday
in Hilliard Florida in 6/1962. Sold to American Railroad
Equipment Agency in Hilliard Fl and later Cherokee NC."
The George Ranch Historical Park purchased the railcar in the
1980's, and it was parked in a Quonset hut until the Rosenberg
Railroad Museum purchased it in July, 1993. It was moved
onto the property in the summer of 1995, and has been under
periodic restoration since. A cover is being constructed
to minimize the effects of weather on the Quebec, and the
interior restoration is now about 70% complete.
